AKC Miniature American Shepherds
Truly an American Breed
The Miniature American Shepherd is one of the newer breeders recognized by the American Kennel Club, it is distinct from the Australian Shepherd, although it is recognized that the Australian Shepherd played a major role in the foundation and development of this new breed. The Miniature American Shepherd or "MAS" is a popular pet, companion, therapy dog, service dog, and sport dog that is ranked #34 in popularity by the American Kennel Club which is an impressive accomplishment for such a new breed. Prior to being recognized by AKC, the Miniature American Shepherd was registered in a few different registries under different names, such as the Miniature Australian Shepherd and the North American Shepherd. In AKC, they are a member of the Herding Group and are considered an active and working breed with high intelligence - meaning that these dogs do their best when they are mentally and physically stimulated, they are not a low energy couch-potato, they like to learn and run and play and compete in sports or go with their owners for a morning run or evening hike through the woods.
On our farm, our MAS are pets and sport dogs. They are couch potatoes that hang out with our family and watch Food Network & Paw Patrol, they help us with moving the goats when needed, we do show ours in AKC conformation as well as compete in sports, primarily disc and barn hunt, we are planning to train for dock diving and agility too.
We are a member of the Miniature American Shepherd Club of the USA (MASCUSA) which is the parent club for our breed in the American Kennel Club.

Miniature American Shepherd Gentleman
Payson is our Miniature American Shepherd stud that we co-own with First Harmony Farms, he is an AKC Grand Champion. For personality, he is "the good-est of boys" and is a cuddly sweetheart who is often laying besides me with Dany and generally hanging around our farm. Payson does very well in the Conformation ring and is an AKC Grand Champion with over half his points towards his Bronze Grand Champion. He also really loves to play disc in our pasture and herd deer away from our apple orchard.

Miniature American Shepherd Ladies
Dany is the Patron Saint of Minis at Rust Belt Farms. She adores everyone and loves you even more if you throw a disc for her. She is amazing with our toddler, and can often be found laying down next to me. Dany is little Miss social butterfly when I take her to events and is quite the extrovert, she will flip a frisbee at you and beg you to play with her or nuzzle your hand to pet her.

Ambrosia is Dany's younger sister, she is the yin to Dany's yang. Ambrosia loves to play disc and is a big fan of swimming and adores my son. Ambrosia is my darling little Imp who is infamous for creating a diversion in order to thieve the other dog's bones. Ambrosia loves to hang out on the couch with family or compete against the other dogs to run across our pasture or to catch a disc.

Ostara is our newest MAS family member from Swampy Creek Miniature American Shepherds; she is sired by AKC GCH Bluegrass Journey on Route 66 and out of UKC CH Swampy Creek Wigglebutt Life in the Fast Lane. Ostara is a sweetheart with lovely conformation, her favorite thing in the world is to play in water. In 2019, Ostara went to her first disc competition and we are looking forward to how she will do in 2020.
