TickLWoods Super Nova
TickLwood's Super Nova
Nova comes to us from our friend TickLWoods in Ontaraio, Canada, she is a very smart and quick thinking dog; Nova has a darling personality and loves children and is my only dog that plays hide & go seek with my son. Nova is always thinking, she will lay down to settle but she her mind is working the whole time. Nova is energetic but a very stable mind, she is not reactive or barky, very social and loves people and especially children; she is really a fun dog for having a reliable dog that will hang out with you and is up for doing anything. She really wants to be your right hand and go on you with any adventures. Unfortunately, shortly after we brought Nova into our home, she was placed on the back burner because we found out I was pregnant with my son; and just after my son was born we moved to our new farm so we are catching back up on her training and progressing with her once again.
Nova's grandsire is WTCH HS Dan the Man PATDcs ATD-Md RTDsc; Dan is the 2018 winner of the Calgary Stampede World Stockdog Championships and the first Australian Shepherd to do so. She is linebred on Vest and her pedigree also includes HOF PCH WTCH Chuckanut Royal Secret RTDcs PATDcs CDX AFTDs ATD-Md, WTCH Rockin C On The Road Again CD GS-N JS-N RE, HOF WTCH Vest's Bell Star Kate RTDs and HOF Vest's Bell Star Gator.
Nova does herd Dany and that can be frustrating for Dany; Nova doesn't bite or nip but she does run a great defense on blocking Dany from her disc and because this frustrates Dany greatly there have been fights before - no one has been harmed, but we keep the girls separate and safe.
**Nova is genetically tested and she is Merle, specifically m/Ma+/Mh (please see results posted below), while her color is visually interesting, it is not rare. She does not carry the genes for dilute, yellow, saddleback, or sable. We are NOT color breeding and we purchased her knowing that she was a merle. However, I know purebred enthusiasts will raise an eyebrow about her color and I respect their hesitation and questioning based on the Australian Shepherd Breed Standard**

Herding
Nova is taking herding lessons, she has a strong interest and is interested in keeping her group together and skilled at motivating her stock to move. She does not bark while working. So far she has been training on sheep & ducks.
Barn Hunt
Nova has begun compete in barn hunt with very minimal training, she has an amazing natural instinct to find the rats. She completed 2 Q's at her first trial, and she is definitely going to improve with practice. Barn hunt appeals to her, she gets to call her own shots for the most part and find what she is seeking. She is very enthusiastic when we go to barn hunt together.
Health & Genetic Testing
Nova had her DNA submitted for testing with Embark; she came back full panel clear which we expected based off her parent's results.

Nova has had her Merle length tested with Paw Print Genetics, her results are that she is a Mosaic Merle and her lengths are m/Ma+(75)/Mh(25) with the Merle Atypical+ being her major merle allele, the Merle Atypical+ is what is responsible for giving her genetically black coat its faded color with a few merle patches that are not as distinct as a classic merle colored dog such as Dany. Mosaic merles are not rare and make up about 16% of all merle dogs tested; Nova can be safely bred with a non-merle dog and will produce non-merle, Merle Atypical+, and Merle Harlequin Herding in her puppies.
